The Tower explores the concept of ‘translation’ with neural audio synthesis. Choral samples are transformed by RAVE, an AI developed at the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music (IRCAM, Paris). The Tower uses a particular RAVE model trained on the organ works of J. S. Bach at the Intelligent Instruments Lab (Reykjavik).
With reference to the biblical Tower of Babel, this work gradually builds to celestial heights from the murmuring foundations of a cyborg musical language.
